In the year 1471 the portuguese arrive in Gold Coast to trade but because the country was rich they decided to settle.Through this trading many European countries include their selves in it for trading.And the system of trading is known as barter.This trading was dealing with the exchange of silk,cotton,cloths,farm-tools,beads,guns,gun powder,gin,ram,slaves and gold.The important of them all was gold and slaves.The struggle of gold and slaves broughtquarrel between the europeans.And the Europeans include the British,Portuguese,Danes,German,Dutch and the Swedes.As they fought the British were the victorious and wanted to take over the country but some of the ethnic groups in didn't understand and that too brought fight.Through the fight the British aonqued the other ethnic groups and took over the country to rule.By referendum,the whole country became known as Gold Coast Colony.But some of the educated Gold coasters who did't agree with the British were doing so they speak up their mind.Lawyer W.E.C. Sekyi a legislative member said that the country belongs to the blacks and it should be ruled by the blacks but the governor at that time refused.In the year 1942, sir Alan Burns was appointed as the new governor by the British.But some of the educated men such as Dr. J.D. Danquah "the doyen of Gold Coast Politics" and other educated men did't like the burn's counstitution.Many Gold Coasters were fed up up with the British rule so they began to form political parties.In the year 1947, J.B. Danquah and George Grant formed the first political party an Gold Coast and the party was called United Gold Coast Convention(U.G.C.C).Later Kwame Nkrumah was invited from United States Of America where he was studying and made him the general secretary of U.G.C.C.And the aim of bringing up this party was to achieve self rule for the country gradually.But the general secretary of the party didn't like the aim of the party so he left the party and formed is own party known as Convention Peoples Party(C.P.P) And the aim of the party was self Government now.In the year1948 when the crossroad shooting incident occured, three of Gold Coasters soldiers died while they were going to protest about how they suffered in the second world war.This make the Ghanaians became angry and worried so they decided to destroy big shops which belongs to the foreigners,and others too were not going to work.So that, this will amke the British government for us to  rule our selves but there was no chance.Other educated men who were challenging the British governor was arrested  and these people were known as the big six.And the big six include Kwame Nkrumah,Obtsebe Lamptey,Arko Adjei,William Offori Attah,J.B. Danquah and Edward Akuffo Ado.In the year 1951 a new changes were made in the laws for ruling the country and this laws was called the coussey counstitiution this law gave the Ghanaians the chance to elect and they alect for Kwame Nkrumah who was the founder of C.P.P and also in prison at that time so he was removed from prison.And he was the first Prime Minister for Ghana.Nkrumah became the leader of Government bussiness in the year 1951 and inspite of that the country was still under the British rule.The people of Ghana were still pressing for full independent and through Dr.Kwame Nkrumah we get our independent on 6th March 1957 and was republic on 1st July 1960.Ghana gained independent and the British were falsed to go to their country.
